The College planned to recast its education and training programs for Trades and Technology with the goal of making them more relevant, more integrated and more attractive to the students and employers of Northwestern Ontario and beyond. The College proposed to implement these plans with the construction of the new Technology Education and Collaboration (TEC) Hub. The 44,000-sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility will be located on the College’s Thunder Bay campus adjacent to the McIntyre Building and will include three programming clusters: Innovation and Incubation; Advanced Manufacturing and Technology; and Industry Sustainability and Skills.
Confederation College hired Colliers Project Leaders to provide leadership, planning and communication for the application to the Federal Government’s Post-Secondary Strategic Investment Fund (SIF). Our team only had six weeks to coordinate the work of external consultants and internal college stakeholders, and develop a proposal checklist, framework, schedule and communication plan to keep all parties informed and on task in order to meet the prescriptive requirements and tight timelines. We produced procurement documents for a Bridging and Compliance Consultant, and led the Owners Statement of Requirements in anticipation of the Design-Build project proceeding to construction. The College’s application was successful, and they received funding for 50% of the proposed $20-million project budget. The College was so pleased with our work during the application process, they hired us to provide project management services to lead the construction of the TEC Hub.
